GratKit Firefly Filament Dryer Box

The Gratkit dryer box is a way to dry out filament that has absorbed moisture. It can also be used as an enclosed filament spool, and has some “smart” features.

Features

  • Maximum temperature of up to 70°C, so good for PLA and PETG, but not so much for high temperature filaments like ASA.
  • Air circulated by fan - not just a heat bed.
  • Configured for use with Tuya platform and can be controlled via compatible apps. Via the apps you can activate different features and monitor the drying process.
  • RGB ambient LED lighting.
  • Built in drying programmes: PLA/PLA PLUS/PETG/ABS/Nylon/PC/HIPS/TPU.
  • Supports both spooling on rollers and suspended off a central rod.
  • Level sensor on motherboard detects tilting over 45° and auto shuts off heating
  • Heating managed by monitoring of base and ceiling temperatures.

Personal Experience

  • I already had Tuya products controlled via the Smart Life app on iOS, so even though that was not the one in the manual that came with the printer, it still works fine as Tuya is more or less white-label.
  • Lighting serves no purpose. I keep it off.
  • The holes for feeding filament through could benefit from something more flexible and that could align more easily with filaments that will come off the spool at different heights as the filament is used. It works, but I have to get things lined up as much as I can with the PTFE tube for the printer so as not to add too much friction to the draw off the spool.
  • Would be nice if it support higher temperatures - but I knew it didn’t when I bought it.
  • On device UI is not intuitive to me. I invariably use the mobile phone app.
  • I have hooked it into Home Assistant so I can get notifications and monitor sensors in there too.
