Description | A Gridfinity generator for OpenSCAD |
Notes
- This creates Gridfinity models, and you can use it via OpenSCAD - it is amazing and in my opinion essential for anyone serious about getting started with Gridfinity.
- You get all the options to generate base plates and bins. You can generate bins with and without scoops and tabs (for labelling), as well as with and without screw and magnet recesses, and with varying numbers of holes/sub-sections.
- I always aim to include a lip and the option for magnets (not screws) wherever possible.
- The option for scoops (finger slides in the model description online) is great for when you know you will want to hold small items like screws in a bin. Including a tab can help keep those items in them as well as being handy for labelling.
- The option for solid bins may seem odd, but as noted in the model’s original description, these are useful for creating your own variations where you take the output into other design tools.
- You can also have partially solid bins, and I find this generally better as then you can have a lip too.
- For example, take a two-high bin, fill it to one unit, and then in Fusion 360, take the exported model and join another model with it but subtractively so that it leaves a perfectly sized recess for the second model in the interior of the bin.
- From the files section on Printables, download the SCAD files from the end of the section.
